Email Account

An email account is a secure storage space on a server associated with a unique email address that allows you to send, receive, and manage emails.

It requires:

  • a unique identifier (email address, such as user@domain.ca);
  • a password;
  • server settings (POP/IMAP/SMTP access protocols) to access messages via an email client.

It is essential to distinguish between:

  • the account, which is the relationship with the provider and the storage space (mailbox);
  • the email address (the unique identifier); and
  • the email client (webmail), i.e., the software or application used to view messages (e.g., Roundcube, Apple Mail, Outlook, or Thunderbird).
