Server
The term “server” refers to the role played by a hardware device designed to provide services to clients over the Internet or Intranet. The number of users that can simultaneously request it determines the size of the physical support of the server.
Here are the most important services that a server like can provide:
- access to the Web;
- sending and collecting e-mails, which requires the intervention of several servers to store, receiving and managing messages;
- storage and consultation of databases; and
- access control in a cybersecurity framework.
The computer server automatically provides a response to a customer’s request by respecting a whole set of network codifications and protocols. It operates autonomously 24 hours a day.
