URI

A Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) is a name that conforms to an Internet standard, which allows an abstract (logical) or physical resource to be uniquely and permanently identified on the Internet.

A URL is the most common form of URI.

As URIs distinguishe one resource from another, they enable Internet protocols to facilitate interactions between and among these resources. URIs can identify, among other types of resources, webpages, images and electronic documents.
