Introduction
CMS Protection is a feature that lets you protect a directory in your WordPress or Joomla CMS with a username and password. This type of protection helps combat brute-force attacks.
With this feature, you can, with a single click, obtain a username and password to access the protected directory. In this article, we explain how to activate and deactivate this protection.
Prerequisites
- Go to https://mg.n0c.com/en/.
- Make sure your Joomla! or WordPress site is installed, as explained in How to Install a CMS.
Procedure
The procedure for activating or deactivating CMS protection is similar for Joomla and WordPress. To help you follow the explanations, we’ll use a Joomla! CMS as an example. As we go along, we’ll point out the particularities of WordPress.
Activation
To activate:
- Choose CMS / Applications -> N0C CMS.
- If it is a WordPress site, choose CMS / Applications -> N0C WP.
- Locate the site for which you wish to activate protection:
- Under CMS PROTECTION, activate the gray slider button marked with the CMS icon to the right:
- When you do so, you’ll see the Username and Password, which you should write down and keep carefully:
- A confirmation message will be displayed and activation of CMS PROTECTION will be complete when the slide button appears in blue, under All Installations, at the bottom of the screen:
Copy and Download Icons
In the CMS protection information dialog box, two icons can be used to save your password. The Copy icon, next to the password, lets you save it to the clipboard:
The Download icon creates a .json file containing the username and password:
Deactivation
In certain circumstances, it may be necessary to deactivate protection, so that the directory is no longer protected by a username and password. This could also happen if you’ve forgotten your password and want to generate a new one.
To deactivate the CMS PROTECTION :
- Locate the site for which you wish to disable protection and slide the blue slider to the left :
- A confirmation message will be displayed.
