How to Set Up Your Account for Two-Factor Authentication

Introduction

You can use two-factor authentication with an Android or iPhone mobile application (such as Google Authenticator) to accessmg.n0c.com, thus increasing the security of your access.

The purpose of this article is to explain how to set up your account to use a two-factor authentication application to authenticate yourself when accessingmg.n0c.com, and how to avoid the risk of locking yourself out should you lose or break your mobile device.

To do so, you have to scan a QR code displayed in the MG panel and register it in the two-factor authentication application on your mobile device. A secret key can also be used if you are unable to scan the QR code with your mobile device.

Note : The N0C glossary contains explanations on a wide range of subjects, and can be consulted to clarify certain terms.

Prerequisites

Enter the following address in your web browser: https://mg.n0c.com/en/.

Step 1 — Installing the Two-Factor Authentication Application

First of all, make sure that the two-factor authentication application is installed on your mobile device.

Step 2 — Activate the Two-Factor Authentication Application

There are two approaches to activation: scanning a QR code with your cell phone or entering a configuration key (secret key).

How to Activate a TFA with a QR Code

Open the application on your cell phone and indicate that you are about to scan the QR code.

  1. Select Security -> Double auth. (TFA).
  2. On the Two-Factor Authentication screen, scan the QR CODE image associated with your USERNAME with your cell phone:
  1. Take note of the random code generated by the application, enter it in the AUTHENTIFICATOR CODE field and click on the Enable button:
  1. If the code entered is valid, you have activated double authentication.
  2. It is very important to keep a backup copy of your QR CODE, as you could block access to your account if you lose your phone. To avoid this, click on the Download button:
  1. In doing so, a .jpg file of the QR CODE is automatically downloaded to your machine.
    • Be sure to keep this .jpg file in your computer files. Better still, print it too.

How to Activate a TFA with a secret key

Open the application on your cell phone and indicate that you are about to enter a secret key.

  1. Select Security -> Double auth. (TFA).
  2. On the Two-Factor Authentication screen, click on the Secret Key button associated with your USERNAME:
  1. In the application on your cell phone, enter your account information, i.e. the account name (your USERNAME) and your secret key.
    • It is very important to keep a backup copy of your Secret Key in your computer files, as you could block access to your account if you lose your phone. Better still, be sure to print it out too.
  2. Take note of the random code generated by the application, enter it in the AUTHENTIFICATOR CODE field and click on the Enable button:
  1. If the code entered is valid, you have activated double authentication.

Step 3 — Dual Authentication Login

  1. Access to https://mg.n0c.com/en/.
  2. Provide your login details.
  3. Enter the randomly generated code and click on the Connect button.

Loss or Breakage of Mobile Device

Loss or breakage of the mobile device on which the QR code (or secret key) is stored can result in the user blocking himself.

Here is what to do if this happens:

  1. Download the two-factor authentication application onto your new mobile device.
  2. Retrieve your saved screenshot of the QR code (or the secret key).
  3. Open the application on your cell phone and indicate that you are about to scan the QR code (or enter a secret key).
  4. Scan the QR code on the screenshot (or provide the account information, i.e. the account name – your USERNAME – and your secret key).
  5. You will automatically retrieve the random codes corresponding to this account and be able to log in.

If you have not saved a screenshot of the QR code or the secret key, you will need to ask your administrator to unlock your account.

Disable Two-Factor Authentication Application

Sometimes it may be necessary to deactivate the application for a given account.
